Background

The Gayatri Mantra was discovered or first chanted by Sage Viswamitra. It was the same Sage Viswamitra who initiated Sri Rama into the mysteries of Sun worship, through the Mantra Aaditiya Hrdayam.

The Mantra has all the three elements that figure in the adoration of God - Praise, Meditation and Prayer.

OM BHUR BHUVA SVAHA TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM BHARGO DEVASYA"

DHEEMAHI

"DHI YO YONAH PRACHODAYAT"

The Gayatri Mantra can be chanted any time and everywhere by anyone. Each word should be pronounced clearly and distinctly, without undue haste or hurry. One does not learn to chant it the correct way immediately. One can take time to learn it. Some Indian classical musician say it took them the whole life of dedicated music saadhna to learn how to pronounce OM properly.
